SL threat to India: Akram
Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram reckons Sri Lanka will be a major threat to India's bid to win a fourth Asia Cup title.
India are one win away from making it to the finals of the STAR Cricket Asia Cup and on current form are expected to reach there easily.
Sri Lanka, who were termed the dark horses prior to the start of the tournament, have already reached the finals with a 100 per cent win record and are looking good to even upset the favourites, especially with Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara in sublime form.
Both the batsmen cracked fine centuries against Bangladesh on Monday. Jayasuriya's 130 came off 88 balls and included 16 fours and six sixes, while Sangakkara's 128-ball 121 runs was his third ton in the tournament.
"He (Jayasuriya) is the dangerman and Sangakkara is in prime form," Akram told Mobile ESPN.
"Jayasuriya's knock still shows that Jayasuriya still has the passion and he should keep going," he added.
Cricket expert Harsha Bhogle agreed with the legend.
"The way Jayasuriya played was quite amazing. At the age of 39, he had the hunger of a 20-year-old," he remarked.
Bhogle reckoned that Bangladesh had been played out of the match the moment the Lankans crossed the 100-run mark without the loss of a single wicket.
He, however, maintained that it was a disappointment that Jayawardene could not make it count after getting off to a start.
The expert commentator was also disappointed with Bangladesh's performance throughout the tournament.
"Bangladesh were disappointing; they need to look back at the type of cricket they are playing," he said adding that "Sri Lanka won the match almost embarrassingly easily".
