Yuvraj joins 6,000 run club
Yuvraj Singh became the fifth Indian batsman to score 6,000 runs in ODI's during his innings against Pakistan in Karachi.
Yuvraj came in at number four in the batting order and played a superb cameo before getting out to a lose shot but he did enough to join an elite company of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Saurav Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin. Yuvraj has now played 210 ODI's and at an average of 36.56 has scored 6033 runs.
There was more delight for India as they notched up their highest total against a Test playing country in Asia Cup when they posted 308 for seven, eclipsing their 301 for four against the same team when they clashed for in the STAR Cricket Asia Cup in Karachi on June 26, 2008.
Infact, this is India's second highest total in the Asia Cup, after they piled up 374 for four against Hong Kong on June 25, 2008.
Gautam Gambhir kept India doing proud. Despite falling for 35, the left handed opener continued to dominate the ODI batting charts. He has so far scored 834 runs at an average of 59.57 in 17 matches, including three centuries and four fifties this year.
Poor Virender Sehwag perished for 49, missing out on his third successive fifty pluse score of the STAR Cricket Asia Cup. He blasted 78 against Hong Kong and 119 against Pakistan in his two previous outings.
Young Rohit Sharma also roared back to form with a 71 ball 58 after he came in at a difficult situation, his first fifty in eight innings. His last substantial contribution came against Australia in Sydney in the first final of the Commonwealth Bank Series on March 2, 2008.
And Sehwag and gambir showed exactly why the world is seriously starting to take note of their deadly combination. Thay have rattled up 867 in 16 innings at an average of 54.18, an average betterd amongst Indian openers by Sachin Tendulkar and Ajay Jadeja (59.77 in 22 innings.)
The Indian team has firmly set foot for the next generation of greats. Yuvraj, Sehwag and Gambhir look well oiled to fill in for three greats Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid. The time is ripe. The time is to move ahead, Records are all set to tumble and by the look of things, pretty fast.
