MSD: We needed some experience
MS Dhoni said his bowling attack lacked the experience to bowl on a flat track after India lost to Pakistan on Wednesday.
India had posted a competitive 308 for seven earlier in the evening and it was expected Pakistan would be stretched on their way to the target but Younis Khan (123 not out) and Misbah-ul-Haq (70 not out) knocked off the runs with absolute ease after a brilliant opening partnership between Salman Butt and Nasir Jamshed.
Dhoni, speaking to STAR Cricket after the match said: "You need a lot of experience to bowl on these flat decks. Piyush Chawla does not have that."
It is a strange perspective from a captain who has been stressing on youth and energy.
Dhoni was also upset with the fact that his team lost regular wickets after another good start by Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir: "We got a good start but lost regular wickets. Then we were in a position where we could have been in deep trouble had we lost one more wicket. The game would have been over then and there."
India were precariously placed at on stage after they had lost four quick wickets but a soild partnership between Dhoni and Raina got India back on track.
Meanwhile, jubilant Pakistan captain Misba-ul-Haq credited his team for the sensational win: "The bowlers did well to restrict India ot 308. The spinners did a good job too."
"I am very happy with the way the entire team came back to win this one. We will have to now beat Bangladesh tomorrow and also hope India lose to Sri Lanka on Thursday."
India are now the team under pressure. They will have to beat Sri Lanka on Thursday.
"We will have to come back and win the Thursday game. Hopefully, we can win and qualify for the final."
