MS Dhoni: We were not nervous

MS Dhoni said his team was not nervous before Thursday's crucial match against Sri Lanka but they wanted to do really well.

Speaking to STAR Cricket after leading India to a thumping win and bagging the Man of the Match award in Karachi, Dhoni said: "We were not nervous at all coming into the match. We just wanted to do well and now the team is happy to be in the final."

Dhoni credited his entire team for the fantastic win, showering special glory on RP Singh, Ishant Sharma and Pragyan Ojha. The left arm spinner, playing just his second ODI bowled beautifully to keep the Sri Lankans in check.

RP Singh, coming back into the team after a gap was lethal with the new ball and then came back well to finish things off tightly.

Dhoni was happy, no doubt, with the start Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir gave India: "We got a wonderful start and then Raina carried on beautifully."

"I got some runs and then Yuvraj Singh did a good finishing job. Frankly, we were up there."

MSD admitted his team needed to fine tune the fielding and bowling before the final. He also reiterated the fact that chasing down big totals was not only about hotting boundaries.

"We wanted to put pressure on the fielders. The wicket was good and playing shots was not tooo difficult."

This must be a great achievement for a skipper, who was rapped his cricket board for complaining about the tight schedule in the STAR Cricket Asia Cup.

The Indian caotain spent a total of more than 11 hours over the last two days, scoring two half centuries, besides effecting some brilliant dismissals behind the wickets.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene sounded shatterred after the defeat, though he tried to put up a brave face.

"We knew we had to get early wickets, which we failed to do. The Indians got off to a wonderful start and their batsmen were calm throughout the chase."

Suresh Raina was dropped on 11 and he went on to score a stunning half century.

"Yes, Raina's dropped catch cost us. We did go all out for the match but I think we wer 20 runs short. We lost wickets whenever we tried to accelerate."

Sri Lanka, the defending Asia Cup champions will now lock horns with India on Sunday. On current form, the favourites would have to be India.
