Mendis relishes learning experience
Ajantha Mendis, who bagged six wickets in the final said the STAR Cricket Asia Cup was a great learning experience.
Speaking to STAR Cricket after spinning his team to an emphatic win in the STAR Cricket Asia Cup final, Mendis said: "It was a great learning experience. I enjoyed every bit of it. I did not think too much."
A shy Mendis, who played against India for the first time picked up six wickets for 13 runs in eight runs said: "We were brilliant on the field, we needed some early wickets and we were lucky we got them."
Wicketkeeper Kumara Sangakkara, who has looked like the only man to read Mendis behind the stumps said he appreciated the fact that the spinner knew what he was doing: "Mendis knows his bowling and more than that, he knows how to use his bowling in match situations."
"I have played against him in the past, kept him a bit and I know he has got great character. He won us a match that was slipping out of our hands."
Mendis was truly exceptional on Sunday. India looked like sailing away to magnificient win at one stage but his six wicket punch dealt a deadly blow to India's hopes.
The world is now set to herald a new sensation. Ajantha Mendis has arrived and with a bang.
