Benaud unaware of baggy green auction

Richie Benaud says he is unaware of his baggy green that is expected to fetch USD 25,000 in an auction.

"I don't have any baggy greens, never have had," Benaud told 'The Daily Telegraph' when asked about the auction on November 5.

An auction house in Melbourne has claimed that the cap was worn by Benaud during a tour of South Africa in 1957-58.

Benaud said he has no clue as to whether the cap is authentic.

"Another one of mine was sold when they sold a Bradman bat for 32,000 dollars. Someone bought what they said was one of my baggy greens in an opportunity shop for 50 cents, and sold it for 10,925 dollars," Benaud said.

"I have no idea if that was my cap or not, and I have no idea if this one is mine. I never kept a cap or a blazer. They just disappeared, no one bothered keeping them in those days," he added.

A spokesman of the auction house insisted that the cap was genuine.

But even if it is not, Benaud said he is least bothered by somebody earning through his name.

"Nope. I am not in the slightest bit interested," he said.
