No player allotments fears: Modi
Champions League T20 chairman Lalit Modi has said there will be no conflicts between teams over common players.
Speaking at the launch of the logo of the Champions League T20 in Mumbai on Thursday, Modi said "All the Boards have come to an agreement on that."He said it was up to the individual players and not the team and respective cricketing board to decide for which team he would like to play for in the Champions League.
"In case a player has played both the leagues (IPL and his domestic league) and both the teams have qualified, then the player will based on his contractual obligations make a decision and pick a team to play in the Champions League. The player has the choice," Modi stated.
Giving an example of Morne Morkel, he said though the South African pacer was picked by the Rajasthan Royals, he did not play a single game in the IPL. He, however, did turn out for the South Africa domestic T20 champions the Titans and so will play for the Proteas outfit this winter.
Modi also said that each of the teams in the tournament will have to stick to the lineup with which they won their domestic T20 league. This immediately puts a question mark about the inclusion of certain players like Sanath Jayasuriya in the Titans team.
The Lankan batsman was recently signed up but according to Modi rules pertaining to "preserve the integrity of the teams" was non negotiable.
"You cannot draft in new players and we will enforce these rules," he said.
Modi was also unrelenting over the issue of allowing ICL players and teams to feature in the Champions League and said: "The rules of the Championship are clear. No rebel League player are allowed.
"There are other tournament's like Stanford's Twenty20; they have their own rules and we have ours."
Meanwhile, Modi said the Champions League would not affect the Test series against England.
"The players in the Champions League are very different from those who will play in the Tests," he told reporters in Mumbai after launching the logo for the Champions League T20 tournament.
"If there are issue, they will be examined," he said, adding that the selectors will take a final call on the players who will feature in the Tests.
Modi said the issue of Tests and Champions League will only arise if the players concerned make it to the finals of the Tournament.
Modi also ruled out a clash of interest between the League and the Champions Trophy in 2009.
"There will be no clash and the ICC will fix the timing accordingly. Fortunately for us the broadcaster is the same. Champions Trophy and Champions League together can be a great marriage," he added.
