Eagles soar when Napier dares

If you thought Virender Sehwag's strike rate was breathtaking, wait till you hear about a certain Graham Napier.

The winner of the inaugural T20 Champions Award in the best batting strike rate category, Napier notched up a strike rate of 195.2 for the Essex Lions.

His best knock came against Sussex at Chelmsford on June 24, 2008 when he smashed 152 runs off just 58 balls with 10 fours and 16 sixes to lift his side to 242 for three.

Even though Napier will not feature in the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 in December, his
innings has left World Cricket that much richer with its sheer class and power and the power-hitters of the world a target to overhaul.

Napiers innings broke and tied some records.

Napier's is the highest individual score in a T20 innings in England, and in the domestic Twenty20 competition. No other batsman has posted as many as 16 sixes in a single Twenty20 innings. Most of the runs in Napier's innings were scored in boundaries, the maximum score by any cricketer in an individual Twenty20 innings (136 runs, scored as 10 fours, and 16 sixes).

It also broke the record for most sixes in a domestic one-day innings, and tied the record for most sixes in any domestic innings to equal the record set by Andrew Symonds during a County Championship in 1995. Napier's innings fell just six runs short of New Zealander Brendon McCullum's unbeaten 158 during the opening match of the IPL.

The inaugural T20 Champions Award, which were presented in New Delhi on Thursday, has been instituted by BCCI, Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa to recognise the best of Twenty20 performances in domestic leagues across all Champions League Twenty20 constituent countries.
