Hussey opts for Chennai

Michael Hussey has confirmed he will play for IPL side Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural Champions League T20.

Hussey plays his state cricket for Western Australia, who have also qualified for the tournament which features the top two teams from domestic competition in India, South Africa and Australia as well as English county side Middlesex and Pakistan's Sialkot Stallions.

Chennai were runners-up in the IPL, while Western Australia finished behind champions Victoria in the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash.

Chairman of the Champions League and IPL commissioner Lalit Modi had left the decision to individual players on whether to play for their local team or their IPL side.

Hussey, however, was the only player to face the dilemma.

"I didn't play for Western Australia in the competition from which they qualified for the Champions League," Hussey said.

"So it would have been unfair for me to take the place of a youngster who has done well in the season.

"That is the reason I kept my allegiance with Chennai for the Champions League.

"Playing for the Chennai Super Kings really helped me in gauging Indian conditions better."

The Champions League is scheduled to be played from December 3-10 in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore.
