Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings have been compensated for the canceled Champions T20 League in 2008.

Both the sides had qualified for the tournament.

"The compensation amount is Rs 10.40 crore each. This is as per the IPL contract," a top IPL source said.

Last year's Champions T20 League, jointly founded by the cricket boards of India, Australia and South Africa, was cancelled in the aftermath of the November 26 terror attacks in Mumbai. It was to feature eight teams.

Royals, owned by the UK-based Emerging Media, and Super Kings, owned by India Cements, have not qualified for the scheduled 2009 edition of CLT20 which is to commence on October 3 and carries a prize money of USD six million.

The forthcoming edition, which effectively becomes the inaugural one, is to feature twelve teams - three from India, two each from Australia, South Africa and England and one each from Sri Lanka, New Zealand and the West Indies.

Each of the three Indian franchise outfits who have qualified for the tournament, IPL2 winners Deccan Chargers, runners-up Bangalore Royal Challengers and Delhi Daredevils, are to get guaranteed amounts to take part in the tournament.

"One hundred per cent," the IPL source said when queried on this count, adding "the gate money from the matches goes into the central pool".
