De Villiers out of ICC CLT20

AB de Villiers will miss the ICC CLT20 after being withdrawn from cricket for more than a month by CSA because of a back injury.

The Proteas batsman had been due to play for the Delhi Daredevils in the competition which is due to begin in India next Thursday.

"AB de Villiers developed left lumbar pain, four weeks ago, during preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy tournament," said Shuaib Manjra, chairman of CSA's medical committee.

"Despite extensive physiotherapy and medication, his symptoms persisted and without medication was unable to move freely during the ICC Champions Trophy.

"We have thus decided to withdraw AB from all cricketing activities for the next four to six weeks in order to allow for proper management of his condition and prevent further injury."

De Villiers added: "I am obviously disappointed to miss the Champions' League and I wish the Daredevils all the best for the tournament."
