The Ferozshah Kotla in New Delhi will see the introduction of electronic tickets from the Airtel Champions League Twenty20.

Capable of seating as many as 55,000 people the Kotla has often been home to at least 2,000 extra spectators during matches in the past.

The organisers and security agencies, however, seem to be well prepared for the mega tournament commencing on October 8.

A police constable on duty at the ground said the move has been made to curve the nuisance of ticket-less wonders at the stadium, who pour in by the droves.

“Lot of influential and rich people come visiting without tickets and manage to get in. This time, our DCP has given us strict instructions on not letting anyone without a ticket.”

The electronic system will save the organisers the horrors of actually clipping slips as crowds start pouring in by the thousands.

This move clearly spells the anticipation of huge crowds during the Champions League. Delhites will no doubt get behind their local heroes, who are one of the three Indian Premier League teams to have qualified for the elite competition.

The Kotla was brimming with security guards on Monday when the Delhi Daredevils gingerly stepped on to train at the outfield and then proceeded for nets on wet concrete wickets.

However, a cop on guard at the venue told this correspondent that there would not be any increase in security once Virender Sehwag returns to the ground.

Sehwag, who was out of action with a shoulder injury, returned to active cricket with the Irani Trophy tie for the Rest of India against Ranji Champions Mumbai.
