Wasim Akram's wife was hospitalised in Chennai following worsening of her health condition in an air ambulance.

The air ambulance was flying the couple to Singapore and had stopped at the Chennai airport here for a scheduled refuelling.

Huma was hospitalised here on advice from doctors on board the ambulance, which was flying from Lahore, Apollo hospitals, where she is undergoing treatment, said.

"She is receiving the necessary intensive medical attention," the hospital said in a statement here.

Huma was originally scheduled to receive treatment in Singapore.

Earlier, airport officials had said that the flight made an unscheduled landing on a request from the pilot.
