"Airtel CLT20 to move out of India"
The second edition of the Airtel Champions League T20 tournament will be moving out of India this year, a report says.
"It will be a toss up between South Africa and England," a source told the Times of India newspaper.
The tournament is scheduled to be played from September 16-26.
The report says there are two reasons for the tournament to be moved out.
"A major reason is the rain factor, with the tournament beginning in the second week of September. And the dates cannot be tweaked because of the hectic FTP.
"The second reason is the very idea of making the Airtel Champions League a global tournament, something that the Airtel CLT20 Commissioner Lalit Modi had been emphasising since he initiated the concept," the report said.
England, Australia and the US remain out of bounds as of now, as far as venues are concerned, it said.
There has been a clash of dates between Modi and the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Refusing to change his stand, Modi has given the ECB one weeks time to tweak its domestic schedule, failing which counties teams would miss out on a chance to play in this year's global Twenty20 event.
Modi said it was the best he could offer ECB as the CLT20 is in no position to alter its dates.
"We need to know (ECB's decision) in the next week or so.
If they don't come we will invite somebody else," Modi was quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph.
"The idea is they come and I hope it doesn't get to that eventuality. I understand counties can't go around the ECB's back and we will not invite anybody without their board's permission.
"We have given them the opportunity to change it (the county season) and there is nothing more we can do. We hope the counties change their minds and advance it by a week but the international calendar is very hard to alter," he said.
On Wednesday Modi revealed that the second edition of Champions League would be held from September 10-26 this year.
But the ECB was quick to express its reservations over the scheduling of the tournament as it coincide with the final two rounds of the English County Championship, the semi-finals and final of the Pro40 League and the ODI Series between England and Pakistan.
The ECB subsequently took up the matter with Modi, but their request to rework the tournament schedule fell on deaf ears.
