Vaughan fails on Yorkshire return
Former England captain Michael Vaughan's struggles with the bat continued as he failed on his return for Yorkshire in their LV County Championship Division One clash against Kent.
He made just 10 in a brief 19-ball innings against Kent at Scarborough before he flashed at in-form seamer Robbie Joseph and edged to wicketkeeper Geraint Jones.
Vaughan's dismissal was a low point on an otherwise good first day for Yorkshire, who had earlier bowled out Kent for 227 as Martin van Jaarsveld (107) and Joe Denly (50) were the only players to reach double figures.
The home side also lost Andrew Gale for 10 but Anthony McGrath (23 not out) and Jacques Rudolph (28no) ensured their was no further loss as Yorkshire closed on 85 for two.
Mark Davies produced a devastating spell to help title hopefuls Durham fight back against Hampshire as 16 wickets fell on day one at Basingstoke.
Third-placed Durham had been dismissed for 156 as Hampshire captain Dimitri Mascarenhas picked up five for 46 as Dale Benkenstein's decision to bat first appeared to have backfired.
Will Smith (70) top scored for Durham as Imran Tahir mopped up the tail to finish with three for five off 4.1 overs.
Hampshire though went from 48 without loss to finish the day on 65 for six as Davies collected five for 24 with Liam Dawson and David Balcombe both set to resume on nought in the morning.
Second-placed Nottinghamshire endured a tough first day against Sussex at Hove as Murray Goodwin (79) and Michael Yardy (64) both hit half-centuries to see the hosts reach 292 for five at stumps.
Meanwhile the first day of Lancashire's match with Surrey at Blackpool's Stanley Park was abandoned because of wet weather.
