"Jaffer still has a future with India"

"Jaffer still has a future with India"

Former chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar tells Sports Center India's Sai Prasad Mahapatra that Wasim Jaffer still has a future.

"Jaffer has been a class player for so many years. He is a first class act. The most important thing is that whenever he has scored a hundred, he went on to make it big," said Vengsarkar speaking exclusively to Sports Center India.

Vengsarkar, who has been known to take some tough calls during his tenure, also opined that Jaffer would have a crucial role to play in the Test squad as a third opener despite the hugely successful Gautam Gambhir-Virender Sehwag combination.

"Jaffer scored heavily, when he had been to England last time. He is a terrific player and will definitely be the part of the team in coming days."

Colonel, who came to the end of his stint late, last year, thought another Mumbai sensation Ajaynke Rahane has a wonderful future too, given the fact that he has scored more than 1,000 runs this season. To top that, the agile Rahane is a livewire on the field.

Vengsarkar did not want to comment on his reactions on Jaffer's contract not being upgraded by the BCCI in the latest contractual releases.
