Piyush: T20 hasn't affected my bowling
Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla tells espnstar.com's Rajarshi Gupta that the advent of T20 has not impacted his bowling.
Chawla, hailed by many as one of the finest Indian spin options, looks unfazed by the T20 razzmatazz that has gripped the country and exhibits unbelievable maturity for his age."I do not buy the theory that T20 will destroy spin bowling. A good delivery is a good delivery, whether it is a Test match, an ODI or a T20 game."
"T20 certainly has not affected my bowling."
An impressive debut in 2007, followed by some consistent shows with his leg breaks has put him in line to be strongly considered an heir to the throne Anil Kumble made his own for almost two decades.
Chawla's spells at crucial junctures during the IPL for King's XI Punjab were also widely acclaimed.
The leggie, for now, is trying to concentrate on a come back into the Indian team.
"I have been playing a lot of domestic cricket and my main focus now is to come back in the Indian side."
Speak a lot to Jumbo
Chawla does not see any similarities between his style of bowling and those of spin legends Anil Kumble and Shane Warne.
"Look, I am a different kind of bowler, with different style. Both Anil bhai and Warne are great bowlers but I do no try to copy their styles
I speak a lot to Jumbo and he keeps giving me tips about small aspects about my bowling and you will get to see them on the field."
Chawla said he was also keen on garnering some tricks of the trade from Warne.
As of now, though, the youngster knows what he has to do and how to go about his goals.
"I try to contain batsmen and that way, wickets will come to me automatically."
Speaking on the Ranji final against his home state UP and Mumbai in Hyderabad, where he is sure to play a huge role, the gutsy leg-spinner said the wicket at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium has always been a good one and he is expecting to reap some good rewards.
"I have played 10-15 games here and the wicket has always been good. Hopefully, we can do well here."
Chawla is a character a lot of people are going to keep a close watch on and despite Amit Mishra's recent run of success, there is every chance that the UP lad will play an important role.
