"Windies not playing good cricket"

Former West Indies great and pilot Colin Croft, in an exclusive interview to espnstar.com talks about cricket and more.

By Pamela Dutta

Q. How do you rate West Indies in this ICC World Twenty20?

A: At the moment they are playing well. A lot of critics threw them to the dustbin, yet, I think they have done reasonably well.

Q. Would you agree that the West Indies is now an unpredictable lot?

A: Yes, there's no denying that, but they need to be consistent. I think this is the major problem of Caribbean cricket these days.

Q. Do you think West Indies will be at the top of the cricket world in the near future?

A: Frankly speaking, not. That is why I wanted to stress on consistency. They won mini world cup four years ago but that's it. After that, they have been playing but not getting the same amount of success.

Bravo was brilliant against India

Q. Where lies the problem then?

A: That is very simple. They are not playing good cricket. They have to balance their performance both with the bat and the ball. It would have been lovely if our West Indies would have reached the top of the world in our lifetime.

Q. What are you doing these days?

A: I am a pilot by profession. And, I am a sports journalist. I cover cricket for print media as well as TV and radio.

Q. How do you manage both? Flying as well as giving expert opinions in media?

A: I fly to save my registration and not regularly. That is why one does not see me as a pilot often. But sports journalism almost continues round the year.

Q. Did you ever fly when the cricket personalities are around?

A: Oh yes. Two years back when the New Zealand cricketers were flying to West Indies, I was one of the pilots.

Q. Do you enjoy being called a legend?

A: Of course! I am a legend and a proud West Indian.
