"Aussies will be a major force in T20"
espnstar.com’s Rajarshi Gupta caught up with Victorian Bushrangers batsman Robert Quiney for an exclusive chat in New Delhi.
There is never a dull moment around Rob, who knows his task will be cut out for the Champions League Twenty20.
The 27 year old from Victoria is a bundle of energy with the bat and a charmer off the field.
However, he knows when it is time to get serious and talking of Australia’s chances in the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy is one such moment.
Quiney, who made an impact with his power-packed batting in the second edition of the Indian Premier League in South Africa for the Rajasthan Royals said victory in Monday’s final will be a huge turn around for the Aussie team.
“I think winning the ICC Champions Trophy will give the Australians a lot to cheer about. It will be a huge moment when we end up defending the Trophy.”
True to character, Quiney does not deny how the national team has been through a massive transition after some of their legends quit in a huddle, leaving a huge void.
The Baggy Greens have been through some tough times recently, losing the Ashes after being knocked out of the ICC World Twenty20 in England.
A 6-1 drubbing of England followed in an ODI series before the team found itself storming into the finals of the coveted ICC event.
“Maybe, the team was just going through a transition and we lost some top players in a hurry. We are doing well now and I am sure the team can pull it off.”
The Victorian southpaw was quick to point out that a resurgent Australian team will be good for world cricket, with all the competition.
“With sides like India and South Africa up there, it will be exciting to have Australia catch up as well, don’t you think,” Quiney quipped with a quick glance up.

Quiney opined that the Aussies would be a major force to reckon with once they sorted their Twenty20 game at the international level.
The Victorian was however clear about his thoughts on T20 cricket and why all the talk of the latest razzmatazz being detrimental to Test cricket is not fair.
“T20 does not mean bad news for Test cricket. It depends on how fans react to it and I happy with the format as long as it is not over done.”
Quiney, though has a more important job at hand, rather than worrying about the impact of T20 on Test cricket or Australia’s chances at Centurion against New Zealand on Monday and he knows that.

The Champions League Twenty20 is upon him and his mates from the Bushrangers.
“Mate, I am very excited, extremely excited. This will be one of the bigger tournaments in recent times and I am looking forward to it.”
A mere single in the last T20 he played against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL will certainly play on his mind. The moment is here. It is for Quiney to grab it.
