Aussie coach to help India

In an exclusive interview to SportsCenter, Mike Young confirms that he will be joining the Indian team as a fielding consultant.

Young will be coming here for a three-week period and his first assignment will be the limited-overs leg of the series against Sri Lanka.

Confirming the development, Young said, “I will be there only as a consultant to help the team with their fielding skills. I will not take part in any other team activities except the fielding.”

Young will be joining the Indian team next week after consultations with the Indian cricket board over the weekend. A senior BCCI official told SportsCenter: “He will be there as a consultant of the Indian ODI team but a full-time coaching assignment can also be a possibility depending upon how things pan out.”

Young has been involved with the Australian ODI team for last nine years. It is learnt that the Indian coach Gary Kirsten spoke to Young to seek his services. India have been without a fielding coach after the BCCI sacked Robin Singh days before the Australia series.

Young comes to the new job with strong credentials. He is well-known for his radical methods and is the brain behind Australia's quicksilver fielding which has played an integral role in their success this decade. But Young said he would only be involved in training the players and not in developing team strategies.

Young will return to Australia on December 27 after the Sri Lanka series and was not willing to talk about a long-time role with the Indian team.
