"I should be back in 12-14 days"
Sreesanth talks to SportsCenter’s Swarup Kar as he starts rehabilitation for the hamstring injury he suffered in Bangladesh.
The speedster had returned home after he suffered a thigh strain on the last day of the first Test at Chittagong which India won by 113 runs.
Sreesanth reported at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore on Monday to start the rehabilitation process. “The first day has proved to be a good one. According to the physio and the trainer, there’s nothing to be worried about,” Sreesanth said.
“I should be back to playing in another 12 to 14 days. I am looking ahead to be fit enough to take the field as soon as possible,” he added.
On whether the recurring injuries have been proving a deterrent, Sreesanth said, “I am actually thankful to God. I haven’t got injured in last 12 months. God has really been kind to me.”
Adding that a bowler cannot do much to protect himself from an injury, Sreesanth said, “Injury is a part of a fast bowler’s life. I would never like to preserve myself for the next day. I would rather be playing, giving my 100 per cent and dying today on the field. I always want to be at my best.
“And, with all the facilities and physios around, I think I can prepare myself better for the upcoming series during this break. It’s nothing to be discouraged about.”
Sreesanth also sounded optimistic of his participation in the approaching series against South Africa. “I am keeping my fingers closed for the second Test. I should be available for the ODIs for sure. I am aiming for the first Test as well but playing the second one looks more realistic, if I get selected,” he said.
