"Everything happens quickly in SA"

Sportcenter's Sai Prasad Mohapatra caught up with South Africa’s performance manager, Jeremy Snape. Excerpts from the interview.

Q: How important is a performance manager’s role in today’s cricket?

A: With a lot of money involved in the game these days, pressure seems to be more than ever on the players. That’s why to keep analyzing their performance is important so that they can keep performing to their best level. We are also looking at a system in South Africa where we can create a competitive environment for the players and make sure that they are keeping up with the world.

Q: You have been with Rajasthan Royals for a long time. How do you plan to pass on the experience to South Africa?

A: The most important part is that everything seems to happen very quickly in South Africa. So, batsmen can score quickly and bowlers can strike quickly, whereas in the sub-continent conditions, the wickets are slower. Therefore, the players need to have a lot of patience.

Q: There are times when bowlers try hard but they don’t get the results. What do you tell them so that they get their direction back?

A: It all depends on bowler’s ability to think efficiently between the deliveries. He needs to go through the review process of what happened in the last delivery. That teaches good lessons. That is how are we supposed to move forward.
