- In the inaugural match of the ICC World Twenty20, Netherlands have registered a four-wicket win over England.
- Netherlands became the third team to register a last-ball win in Twenty20 Internationals. Sri Lanka (vs. New Zealand at Wellington on December 22, 2006) and New Zealand (vs.India at Wellington on February 27, 2009) were the first two teams to produce the last-ball victories.
- Netherlands (163-6) have recorded their highest ever score, bettering the 153 for five against Kenya at Belfast on August 2, 2008.
- England have earned a dubious distinction of losing five successive games in the ICC World Twenty20 between September 14, 2007 and June 5, 2009 - one each to Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, India and Netherlands.
- England hold an unwanted record of five successive losses, surpassing Bangladesh's four defeats in a row between September 15 and 20, 2007.
- The aforesaid defeat is England's fifth in six games in the ICC World Twenty20 - their only win being by 50 runs against Zimbabwe at Cape Town on September 13, 2007.
- Netherlands have won three and lost one out of five played in Twenty20 Internationals. Their match against Ireland at Belfast on August 5, 2008 was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
- Ravi Bopara (46 off 34 balls) has registered his best score in Twenty20 Internationals, surpassing the 13 off 11 balls against West Indies at Port of Spain on March 15, 2009.
- Luke Wright (71 off 49 balls) has posted his highest innings in Twenty20 Internationals, bettering the 30 off 19 balls against New Zealand at Christchurch on February 7, 2008.
- Wright became the second English batsman to register a fifty in the ICC World Twenty20. Kevin Pietersen was the first to accomplish the feat - 79 off 37 balls against Zimbabwe at Cape Town on September 13, 2007.
- Bopara and Wright had put on 102 - England's highest stand for the first wicket, eclipsing the 65 between Wright and Philip Mustard against New Zealand at Christchurch on February 7, 2008.
- England's previous best for the first wicket in ICC World Twenty20 was 62 between Darren Maddy and Vikram Solanki against New Zealand at Durban on September 18, 2007.
- The aforesaid partnership is the fifth century stand for the first wicket in the ICC World Twenty20. Australia's Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden is the only pair to have been associated in two century stands for the first wicket.
- James Anderson (3/23) has produced his career-best bowling performance, bettering the 2 for 24 against New Zealand at Durban on September 18, 2007.
- Tom de Grooth has registered his career-best score - 49 off 30 balls, surpassing the 24 off 28 balls against Scotland at Belfast on August 4, 2008.
- Grooth has been adjudged the Man of the Match for the first time.
- For Netherlands, the third wicket partnership of 43 between Grooth and Zuiderent and the fourth wicket stand of 50 between Grooth and Borren are records.
