- Under Graeme Smith's captaincy, South Africa have won 35 out of 74 contested - winning % 47..29 (Lost 22 and Drawn 17).

- Smith's tally of 35 wins as captain is exceeded only by Ricky Ponting (44), Steve Waugh (41) and Clive Lloyd (36).

- India have suffered their first ever defeat under Mahendra Singh Dhoni's captaincy. Dhoni have won 8 and lost one out of 12 contested - winning % 66.66 (Drawn 3)

- The only team to defeat India in India by an innings during the last 26 years is South Africa, accompishing the feat three times.

- Dale Steyn (7/51 + 3/57) have registered the best ever figures for South Africa against India in India.

- Steyn is the first South African bowler to claim ten wickets in a Test match against India in India.

- Only three South African bowlers have bagged ten wickets or more in a Test match against India - Allan Donald (12 for 139 at Port Elizabeth in December 1992) and Shaun Pollock (10 for 147 at Bloemfontein in November 2001) were the first to achieve the feat.

- Steyn's figures of 10 for 108 are the second best after Allan Donald's 12 for 139 at Port Elizabeth in December 1992.

- Steyn became the second South African bowler after Makhaya Ntini to have claimed ten wickets or more in a Test match four times.

- The only Indian bowler to capture ten wickets in a match in India-South Africa Tests is Venkatesh Prasad - 10 for 153 at Durban in 1996-97.

- Zaheer, for the third time, has registered a stand of fifty or more for the eighth wicket against South Africa - 70 with VVS Laxman at Johannesburg; 59 with Mahendra Singh Dhoni at Durban - both in December 2006 and 59 with Saha at Nagpur on Tuesday.

- Zaheer's 33 is his highest against South Africa in India, eclipsing the 30 at Kanpur in November 2004.

- Zaheer's best ever against South Africa is 37 at Johannesburg in December 2006.

- Paul Harris (3/76) has produced his best figures in India, bettering the 3 for 101 at Kanpur in April 2008.

- Harris' best ever figures against India are 4 for 129 at Cape Town in January 2007.

- Harbhajan Singh (39) has registered his highest innings against South Africa, surpassing the 17 at Kanpur in 2004-05.

- Harbhajan, for the first time, has shared a 50-run partnership against South Africa - 50 with Saha for the seventh wicket. His previous best stand for any wicket against South Africa was 36 for the ninth wicket with Zaheer Khan - at Kanpur in November 2004.

- Murali Vijay (32) has registered his highest score against South Africa, bettering the four in the first innings of the present Test.

- Vijay's innings is his highest at one-down in Tests. His only fifty prior to the Nagpur Test was 87 as an opener against Sri Lanka at Mumbai (BS) in December last year.

- Vijay, before his dismissal, had added 72 for the third with Sachin Tendulkar - the highest for India for this wicket-position at VCAS, Jamtha.

- Vijay, in only six innings in his brief four-Test career, has recorded one stand of 200-plus - 221 with Virender Sehwag against Sri Lanka at Mumbai (BS) in 2009-10; 116 with Sehwag against Australia at Nagpur in 2008-09 - both for the first wicket and three partnerships of fifty plus - one each against Australia, South Africa and Bangladesh.

- Sachin became the first player to register 40 hundreds at one batting position. His run-aggregate at number four reads: 11133 (ave.57.09), including 40 centuries and 45 fifties in 219 innings is quite marvellous.

- Sachin is the first to post back to back hundreds at VCAS,Jamtha. Against Austraila, he had played an outstanding innings of 109 in November 2008.

- Sachin Tendulkar (100), with his 73rd first-class hundred, has posted his first against South Africa in India, eclipsing the 97 at Mumbai in February 2000.

- Tendulkar's overall first-class record is quite impressive: 22230 at an average of 59.12 in 267 matches, including 73 hundreds and 100 fifties.

- Tendulkar has now registered hundreds against all the eight nations at home. The first to achieve the feat was Rahul Dravid.

- Tendulkar's 91st international hundred is his 46th in Tests - his fourth against South Africa.

- Tendulkar has joined Mohammad Azharuddin and Virender Sehwag with regard to most hundreds (4) against South Africa - a record as well in India-South Africa Tests.

- Sachin is not only the first player to make 30 centuries in Asia but also the first Indian to post 20 centuries in India. Only Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting have recorded most hundreds (21) than Tendulkar at home.

- For the first time, Tendulkar has recorded hundreds in three Tests in a row, having made two such knocks in the recently concluded series against Bangladesh.

- Tendulkar has been maintaining a batting average of 55-plus, thanks mainly to the four centuries in his last eight innings - an unbeaten 100 against Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad in November 2009; an unbeaten 105 against Bangladesh at Chittagong and 143 at Dhaka and 100 against South Africa at Nagpur Tuesday.

- The only country where Sachin has not registered a hundred is Zimbabwe, where his highest is 74 in four Tests.

- By top scoring against South Africa in the second innings, Tendulkar has extended his record. His feat of top-scoring 41 times is exceeded only by West Indian, Brian Lara (49).

- India (319), for the third time, have registered 300 or more in the second innings against South Africa - the first two occasions being the 400 for seven in the 1996-97 Kanpur Test and 328 at Ahmedabad in 2007-08.

- Hashim Amla has received his second Man of the Match award - his first against India.
