- Amla's third hundred against India is his ninth in Tests.
- Amla has become the first batsman to make 500 in 2010, amassing 551 at an average of 137.75, including two hundreds and two fifties in five innings (four Tests).
- Amla, for the first time in his Test career, has posted four successive innings of fifty-plus - 95 at Cape Town and 75 at Johannesburg (both against England), 253 not out at Nagpur and 114 at Kolkata (both against India).
- Amla and Petersen have added 209 for the second wicket - South Africa's second best at this venue, next only to the 212 between Daryll Cullinan and Gary Kirsten in 1996-97, which is also their best ever stand for the second wicket against India.
- Amla has aggregated 367 (ave.367.00) in the series, including two hundreds, with a career-best of 253 not out at Nagpur, obliterating the 341 (ave.85.25), including one century and one fifty in the three-Test series in 2007-08 by Neil McKenzie.
- Amla's performance is his career-best in terms of run-aggregate in a Test series, eclipsing the 311 (ave.44.42) in the four-Test series against England in 2009-10.

- Amla, for the first time, has posted 300 runs or more in two successive series.
- Amla has been involved in a stand of 200 or more six times - three each for the second and third wickets. With Jacques Kallis, he has been associated in a three stands of 200 or more, two with Graeme Smith and one for Petersen.
- Amla's runs' tally of 367 before being dismissed is a record by any batsman against India, bettering Pakistan's Javed Miandad's feat of 365 in two innings - 280 not out at Hyderabad (Niaz) and 85 at Lahore - before being dismissed in January 1983
- Harbhajan Singh, with three for 60, has taken his tally of wickets at Eden Garden to 41 (ave.22.87) in just seven Tests, setting a bowling record at this venue, bettering Anil Kumble's tally of 40 wickets (ave.30.82) in eight Tests.
- Mahendra Singh Dhoni, for the first time, has lost four tosses in succession - vs. Sri Lanka at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai last year, vs. Bangladesh at Mirpur in January this year and vs. South Africa at Nagpur and Kolkata.
- India have lost five successive tosses. Virender Sehwag lost the toss in the Chitagong Test against Bangladesh.
- South Africa have won all the three tosses at Eden Gardens, Kolkata - in 1996-97, 2004-05 and 2009-10.
- Zaheer Khan has claimed Graeme Smith's wicket four times, emulating Sreesanth's tally.
- Smith is averaging 37.52 against India as against his Test career average of 50.21.
- Despite his cheap dismissals in the series - 6 at Nagpur and 4 at Kolkata, Smith is enjoying an excellent Test record in the first match innings - 2322 in 39 innings at an average of 59.53, including eight hundreds and five fifties.
- Alviro Petersen, after playing 89 First-class games, has made his debut in Tests. He is the 308th player to appear for South Africa in Tests.
- Petersen (100 off 164 balls) is the third batsman to register a century on debut for South Africa, joining Andrew Hudson (163 against West Indies at Bridgetown in April 1992) and Jacques Rudolph (222 not out against Bangladesh at Chittagong in April 2003).
- Rudolph is one of the five batsmen to have recorded double hundreds in Tests on debut - the first four being England's Tip Foster - 287 against Australia at Sydney in December 1903; West Indian Lawrence Rowe - 214 & 100 not out against New Zealand at Kingston in February 1972; Sri Lankan Brendon Kuruppu - 201 not out against New Zealand at Colombo, CCC in April 1987; New Zealander Matthew Sinclair - 214 against West Indies at Wellington in December 1999.
- Petersen's innings is the highest by any batsman for South Africa against India on debut, obliterating Zander de Bruyn's 83 in the 2004-05 Kanpur Test.
- South Africa lost six wickets while adding just ten runs - 251 for 3 to 261 for 9 - their second worst collapse against India. In the 1996-97 Ahmedabad Test, they lost six wickets for just nine runs in the second innings - 96 for four to 105 all out.
