ICC to meet Black Caps

An ICC delegation will be in New Zealand on Thursday to assuage fears about player safety in the Champions Trophy.

Players in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and England have expressed their concern about holding the tournament in Pakistan next month following a spate of bombings there in recent months.

The New Zealand Cricket Players' Association have stated they do not believe the players should go and there is a possibility that an under-strength side will be sent to the tournament which is due to get under way on September 12.

NZCPA executive manager Heath Mills has been in Christchurch on Wednesday talking with NZC chief executive Justin Vaughan, but no decision on the Black Caps' participation in the tournament is expected until after Friday's NZC board meeting.

The ICC delegation arriving in Christchurch on Thursday will be led by general manager of cricket David Richardson and will include Tim May, the chief executive of the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations (FICA) and Pakistan coach and former Australia fast bowler Geoff Lawson.

"We are committed to a safe and secure event in Pakistan," said ICC president David Morgan.

"We believe these visits and the feedback we get from them will play a major role in us achieving those ends."
