Champs Trophy may shift to Lanka
The ICC may shift the venue of the Champions Trophy from Pakistan to Sri Lanka due to the severe security reservations.
Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and England have raised questions about the security conditions in the strife torn country and refused to confirm participation of their teams if the Champions Trophy is played in Pakistan, said the General Manager of International Cricket Council (ICC), David Richardson.
"The ICC Task Force needs to report back to the ICC, they need to take on the advice that they're picking up, not only from feedback they're getting from Australia, but also from New Zealand and England and South Africa and other parts of the world," Richardson was quoted as saying by ANI.
According to The News, the ICC met New Zealand representatives on Thursday to discuss the security of the Champions Trophy, but the players expressed serious concerns. The ICC is next set to meet South African and English officials.
Richardson revealed in Friday's meeting that their advice was that the event would be safe but he also said that shifting the tournament to Sri Lanka was an option if four leading teams refused to play in Pakistan.
