Pak may lose CT to Dubai
If murmurs within the ICC are to be believed, Pakistan may lose the right to host the jinxed Champions Trophy to Dubai.
Media reports from Pakistan say ICC members are internally discussing a "permanent" venue for the Mini World Cup and abolish the "rotational" system.
Reportedly, the newly-formed Dubai Sports City has been lobbying hard to move the Champions Trophy to the Emirates. Dubai is also the ICC headquarters.
The world body is still pondering whether to hold the Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year. Only in September, the ICC had decided that a decision on the venue would be taken after a security delegation visited Pakistan in March 2009. But all that could now change.
Pakistan's leading daily The News, quoting an ICC source, said: "The newly raised Dubai Sports City has started making moves to convince member countries to get the hosting rights of the Champions Trophy on a permanent basis. Some of the members who favoured the idea say that like Wimbledon and the US Open (in tennis), the prestigious cricket event should also be staged at one place and there is no better place than the newly raised Dubai Sports City."
