ICC approves Paine for Haddin

Tim Paine will replace Brad Haddin in Australia squad after the ICC approved the change for the Champions Trophy.

Also, Kevin McClean will replace Daren Powell in the West Indies squad for the tournament to be staged in South Africa from September 22 to October 5.

The ICC has confirmed Powell's replacement to West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) on behalf of the event technical committee.

McClean, a 21-year-old all-rounder from Barbados, has not played international cricket but has appeared in 13 first-class matches in which he has scored 291 runs at an average of 20.78. He has bagged 39 wickets at an average of little over 20 with his best figures being 5-49.

The confirmation for Haddin's replacement was also conveyed to the Cricket Australia (CA) on Thursday.

The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman from Tasmania played his only ODI for Australia against Scotland last month and is part of the squad for the forthcoming series against England which starts at The Oval on Friday.

In 31 first-class matches, Paine has scored 1,611 runs at an average of a little under 41 and has dismissed 87 batsmen behind the wickets.

The event technical committee of the Champions Trophy consists of David Richardson (ICC, chairman), Don McIntosh (tournament director), Campbell Jamieson (representative of IDI, the ICC's commercial arm which runs major ICC events), Mike Gajjar (CSA representative), Sanjay Manjrekar (independent nomination) and Nick Knight (independent nomination).

The West Indies plays their first game of the tournament on September 23 against Pakistan at The Wanderers while Australia will launch their title defence against the West Indies at The Wanderers on September 26.
