Aus players refuse to play in Pakistan
Senior Australian cricketers have informed their cricket board that they will not travel to Pakistan to play the Champions Trophy.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the players have told Cricket Australia that they will pull out of the sqaud in case the Board gives a green signal.
The paper said the bomb blast near the Lal Masjid in the Pakistani capital has created a panic among the players.
The ICC also made it clear after the bomb blasts in Islamabad and Karachi that they were looking to shift the tournament to Sri Lanka.
Earlier, Cricket Australia had sent their security adviser Reg Dickason to Pakistan to assess the security situation. Details of his report are not known, but it is unlikely that he would have given a green signal to the Board.
Security personnel are also concerned about the fact that the Pakistan Cricket Board cannot guarantee cleared roads between team hotels and stadia throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, chief executive of the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations Tim May was quoted as saying that the situation in Pakistan was still very much in turmoil since they abandoned their tour of south Asian nation in March.
"FICA is very concerned about the inherent risks of holding such an event in Pakistan in such a landscape of unrest and volatility and opposition to western countries," May added.
