Watson may play ICC World T20
Australian all-rounder Shane Watson is expected to recover from a groin strain in time for the ICC World Twenty20.
Cricket Australia on Wednesday said that Watson has been assessed by its medical staff following his return to Australia from the VB Series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates last week.
"Scans have confirmed a minor right groin injury to Shane and we expect him to be fit to play in the ICC World Twenty20," Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said. "He'll be monitored over the coming weeks and is expected to be available for consideration for Ashes selection."
Watson picked up the injury during the seven-wicket loss to Pakistan in the one-off T20 match in Dubai on Thursday and then returned to Australia rather than going to South Africa for an IPL stint with the Rajasthan Royals.
"My groin is pretty good, it's only a very minor sort of strain. But the medical staff at Cricket Australia thought it was better for me to come home and get over it, with probably a week or two's rest instead of flying over to South Africa," Watson had said then.
The 29-year-old Queensland cricketer is just raring to return to action with his improvised bowling action which he feels would help him perform better.
"I'm still so excited about improvements that are going to be in my bowling with little technical changes that I've made. I can't wait to be able to get out there in the next couple of weeks," Watson said.
