Batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh's top order failed. Bangladesh crossed 150 thanks to Raqibul Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim's partnership.
Jayawardene kept Sri Lanka's rate within reach. He was supported well by Kumar Sangakkara.
Bangladesh, however, struck back. Sangakkara was sent back while trying to go over extra cover, and Jayawardene edged Rubel to Mushfiqur in the 14th over. Then Jehan Mubarak and Silva took charge. But then Mortaza got Mubarak and Shakib packed up Indika de Saram in the 19th over, but Silva and Mathews hung on.
Earlier, Farveez Maharoof's first over cost Sri Lanka 15 runs - Tamim Iqbal hitting three boundaries.

Ashraful and Mahmuddulah misred Isuru Udana in the seventh over. Ajantha Mendis kept Shakib in check.
The 70-run partnership between Mushfiqur and Raqibul helped Bangladesh to reach a competitive score.
Bangladesh were coming from a loss to Australia, who spurred to a daunting total by a thumping opening partnership from Brad Haddin and Shane Watson, clinched a facile victory over the former in Nottingham.
