White is ready for the Aussie job

Cameron White is ready to hit the ground running after being called up to Australia's ICC World T20 squad to replace Symonds.

The Bushrangers captain received a call from Cricket Australia to inform him he would be leaving for England in a matter of hours after Symonds was sent home after breaching team rules.

Leg-spinner White remains in the dark as to what his role will be, but despite Australia's opening match being against West Indies at the Oval on Saturday, he insists he wil be ready to play.

"I think I arrive in the country about an hour before the first game tomorrow," White said

"It would be interesting if I get a call-up but I feel as though I'm ready to play so if I get the opportunity, hopefully I can make the most of it."

The 25-year-old admits he was disappointed after being left out of the original squad despite having a strike rate of 149 and an average of 38 with the bat at international level in the Twenty20 format.

Making it to the team finally

White was also overlooked for the recent one-day series against Pakistan in the UAE, prompting him to fear he had slipped out of the selectors' minds altogether.

"I was a little bit disappointed, but you move on, they are the decisions that people make about your career and selection issues at the time," he said.

"I always thought I was around the mark with the Twenty20 stuff so I was always hopeful of originally getting picked in this squad when it was first announced and then obviously disappointing when I didn't so that's why I guess today's a nice day for me."

However, the leg-spinner conceded his inclusion in the squad was a bittersweet occasion as it came about due to another off-field transgression by Symonds that places his international career in serious jeopardy.

Feels bad for Symonds

"It's pretty disappointing, obviously for the team and obviously for Andrew as a person and a mate," White said.

The intense scrutiny that Symonds was subjected to, and which led to the 33-year-old be axed from the squad, was to be expected according to White.

But despite the potentially career-ending setback to Symonds, White is hopeful the burly Queenslander could eventually straighten himself out and play cricket again.

"I guess being the professional sportsman's life, I guess you're under a fair bit of scrutiny no matter what sport you play," he said.
