Pak confident about crucial tie

Pakistan are confident of bouncing back strongly to claim a comprehensive victory over Holland to advance into the next stage.

Despite entering the tournament with the highest win ratio for Twenty20 cricket in the world, Pakistan are facing the humiliation of an early exit from the event following Sunday's humbling 48-run defeat by England.

The damage inflicted to Pakistan's run-rate by their Oval defeat was such they now need to beat Holland at Lord's today and beat them well to have any chance of qualifying for the next stage.

Pakistan believe they can secure qualification either by reaching their victory target within 16 overs or restricting Holland to 75% of their total, which they believe are both achievable.

"It's a big game and we've worked out what we need to do and it's not impossible, but it is a do-or-die situation for us," admitted Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam.

"Holland are a good side and they have some good cricketers, but if we play to our potential with the match-winners we have then I'm sure we will get through.

"We were not surprised by Holland because in Twenty20 cricket anything can happen and we saw that when West Indies beat Australia.

"West Indies have been here in England for three months and nothing has gone right for them and all of sudden they come into this tournament and the captain plays a fantastic knock."

Netherlands will be confident alright!

Pakistan have recent memories of suffering the humiliation of going home early from a recent major tournament when they lost to Ireland and were dismissed from the World Cup in the Caribbean two years ago.

But Intikhab believes there is a determination within the Pakistan camp to ensure they do not suffer another early exit, stressing: "It would be a big blow to go out because nobody wants to go out at the first stage.

"In the last World Cup we didn't qualify for the Super Eight and we don't want to repeat that history.

"I'm sure the boys are okay, they are not down and they will go out there and do their jobs properly. We were all disappointed with the result against England but that's over now and you have to move forward."

Pakistan will make at least one change from the line-up which lost to England with seamer Yasir Arafat suffering a strained hamstring during that defeat and has already been ruled out of tomorrow's contest.

Left-arm swing bowler Sohail Tanvir is expected to be drafted in as his replacement having surprisingly been overlooked for their opening game despite being the leading wicket-taker with 22 victims in the 2008 Indian Premier League.

All-rounder Fawad Alam may also come into contention for the must-win encounter to strengthen Pakistan's batting line-up if they need to score a big total to qualify.
