Vettori to miss South Africa clash

With New Zealand through to the Super Eights, injured Daniel Vettori is unlikely to play against South Africa on Tuesday.

Daniel Vettori, who sustained a shoulder injury during practice on Friday, took a minor part in team training at Lord's on Monday but it seems certain that he will be be rested until the opening Super Eights match.

New Zealand confirmed their progression from the group stage with their seven-wicket victory over Scotland at the Oval on Saturday and South Africa's 130-run thumping of Scotland on Sunday.

The 30-year-old left-arm spinner, who has been on cortisone injection, does not want to push himself too hard as his side has virtually made it to the Super Eights.

"Hopefully he will be fit. If not, we have got to get our head around ways we can operate without him," said vice-captain Brendon McCullum who stood-in for Vettori.
