Gayle doubtful for Sri Lanka clash

West Indies captain Chris Gayle is an injury doubt for Wednesday's ICC World Twenty20 Group C match against Sri Lanka.

Gayle hurt his right knee during his match-winning 88 against Australia at The Oval last weekend, and admits he was struggling to even walk the next day.

His mobility has since improved, but West Indies have no reason to take an undue gamble on the destructive opener's fitness in a fixture between two teams who have already qualified for the Super Eights.

"I'm carrying a bit of an injury and I don't know if I might be playing yet, so it's a situation that we need to look at," Gayle reported, shortly before heading off to West Indies' net practice at which he was intending to try to bat.

"I picked it up in the last game from a ball that (Mitchell) Johnson bowled and I'm still struggling a bit with it.

"When I was batting I didn't feel it. But the next day I couldn't walk properly and I'm just trying to get back in my stride now.

"The knee is swollen a lot and bruised a lot, so let's see what happens."
