"Fatigue not reason for India's loss"

"Fatigue not reason for India's loss"

Former Australia captain Steve Waugh disagreed with Gary Kirsten on fatigue as a reason behind India's early ouster.

Waugh said some "basic errors" by Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men was the cause of the debacle.

BCCI deny fatigue excuse

"I do not think that it (fatigue) is a very valid reason. I think all the teams play same amount of cricket these days. At the end of the day, they (Indian team) did not play well enough on a couple of days.

"They were not sharp enough and they made some basic errors. So they will be disappointed," Waugh told reporters.

India coach Gary Kirsten had attributed fatigue as one of the main reasons for the team's early exit from the prestigious tournament.

Kirsten: IPL did not help us

"In that (Twenty20) form of the game, there are lots of upsets. There is no one who is a particular favourite. It is disappointing for the whole of India. I know there are 1.2 billion people who will be disappointed but there are 20 million Australians who are pretty disappointed as well," he said.

Waugh was talking to reporters after meeting Union Home Minister P Chidambaram at his North Block office on Tuesday.

On being asked about Dhoni's captaincy, he said, "He (Dhoni) is an excellent captain. He has done an excellent job. Obviously, people are very emotional right now about what happened."
