Smith provides boost for Proteas
Graeme Smith is expected to be fit for the ICC World Twenty20 which starts at the end of next month, Cricket South Africa have confirmed.
The South Africa captain suffered a finger injury while playing for his Indian Premier League side, Jaipur, earlier this week - a blow that ruled him out of the rest of that tournament and put in doubt his participation in the global showpiece in the West Indies.
But after returning to South Africa and having met with the CSA medical team, it was discovered that he should be fit again within four weeks.
"Graeme will have a further X-ray on Tuesday to make sure his recovery is on track," said South Africa team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee, who was present when the opener had his X-rays and scans reviewed yesterday.
Smith suffered the injury while taking a catch to dismiss Virender Sehwag during Jaipur's defeat to the Delhi in Ahmedabad on Monday.
The World Twenty20 starts in the Caribbean on April 30.
