Dr Vece Paes join CAB

Hockey Olympian Vece Paes is all set to join Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) as medical consultant for the upcoming 2009-10 season.

CAB President Jagmohan Dalmiya said he had preliminary discussion and Dr Paes would be asked to be a medical consultant to look after not only the senior cricketers but all the age group as well.

"Such a senior person cannot be taken as support staff. Instead he will be vested with all powers to choose support staff and others and draw up programme for the entire season," Dalmiya said.

He said it was likely that Dr Paes will begin work by August.

"Now we are busy with election but things will be clearer on this issue by August," he added.

Prompted to Elite group, Bengal have already roped in former India medium pacer Roger Binny as the senior side coach for the coming season.

Father of Indian tennis ace Leander, Dr Paes was a former India midfielder and was part of the bronze medal winning Olympic side.
