Dalmiya wants to patch up with BCCI

Newly elected CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya wants to patch up with the BCCI, saying he wants to move on.

The 68 year old veteran, who once headed the BCCI has shared a volatile relationship with the current estabilshment after he was accused of swindling funds during the 1996 World Cup, which was jointly held by India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

"There is a lot of apprehension about CAB's relations with BCCI, now that I am back. There are two types of issues - collective and personal. Collectively, we want to tell the board please don't let the CAB suffer. I will extend my hand of friendship to the board," Dalmiya addressin the media at Eden Gardens said on Tuesday.

Dalmiya termed the earlier election in 2006 very differently from the one he swept on Wednesday: "The earlier one was for power. This one is for cricket".

He defeated Prasun mukherjee by 24 votes. The former Commssioner of Police was backed to the hilt by West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee but still lost by five votes to Dalmiya two years back.

Dalmiya brushed aside a question on what kind of equation he would share with Sourav Ganguly after his victory. The former India captain had fallen out with the veteran administrator after the Indian southpaw openly expressed his support for Mukherjee some time back. In fact Ganguly had threatened to quit playing for Bengal after he suggested members of Dalmia's camp had targeted his brother Snehashish, the CAB assistant secretary in the previous regime, in the run up to the much hyped CAB elections.

"Please think positive. This is a non-issue, a dead issue," Dalmiya quipped.

Dalmiya, in fact admitted he would consult Ganguly on cricketing matters. "Why shouldn't I? He is after all the former skipper of the Indian team."

The powers have shifted again in Bengal at a time when their cricket team has been going through a tough patch. Maybe, the wily old administrator would get back Bengal cricket again on the road to success.
