Security high priority for the IPL

Top level security for players, officials and others would be very high on the agenda during the IPL starting April 10.

"Security would be beefed up and it will be the number one priority," IPL Tournament Director Dheeraj Malhotra told PTI when asked about this issue in the wake of today's terror attack on Sri Lanka cricketers in Lahore, Pakistan.

Malhotra said that the already announced schedule of the IPL is to undergo some changes following the declaration of the dates of the Lok Sabha polls by the Election Commission.

"For security reasons IPL matches cannot be held in a city if there are LS polls in that city on the same day. We need to look into the schedule, see which match dates are clashing with the poll dates (in that particular city) and then make the necessary changes," he said.

"This process will be done in two or three days and a revised IPL schedule released," he added.

IPL matches are scheduled to be held in Mumbai, Jaipur, Delhi, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Vishakhapatnam, Bangalore and Chennai.

The tournament would run till May 24.
