The Union Home Ministry plans to do some tough talk on the organisers of the IPL not to take the government for a ride.

The Home Ministry will also ask them to hold proper consultations with the states where they want to hold the T20 matches from next month.

"No extra security for IPL"

The Home Ministry will make its message clear during a meeting with the IPL organisers on Monday, sources said.

Though the ministry was officially tight-lipped about the entire issue, it was surprised by replies from various states expressing their inability to host the mega event even with the revised schedule, the sources said.

Before submitting the revised schedule, IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi had said at a media briefing that before chalking out the new fixtures, all states concerned had been taken into confidence.

Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta along with Special Secretary (Internal Security) Raman Shrivastava will hold a meeting with IPL organisers on Monday during which it was likely to be indicated to them that they should be holding proper consultations with the states where they wanted to hold the cricket tournament, the sources said.

IPL told to revise schedule again

Monday's meeting will lay emphasis on the fact that law and order was a state subject and only after receiving their inputs, the Union Home Ministry would be giving clearance, the sources said.

The Ministry on March 13 had rejected the revised schedule of the IPL organisers and had said it "may not be feasible to play matches as per the submitted schedule".

"It is not possible to exempt any state from its promise to release state police personnel for election duties because these have been taken into account in arriving at the overall availability of security personnel," the Home Ministry had said while rejecting the revised schedule.

Delhi, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Karnataka and Rajasthan had either asked for a rescheduling of the IPL dates or demanded more central paramilitary forces to cope with the elections and the tournament as well.

AP to give security after April 26

While Delhi and Andhra Pradesh said they would be unable to provide security to the matches scheduled in their states during the entire poll period (April 16 to May 13), Karnataka expressed its inability to provide security for the Royal Challengers' two home matches slated for April 11 and May 14 in Bangalore.

Though Karnataka said it would be unable to provide security on the two match days, it was okay with the four other match days of the league starting on April 10.

There, however, was no problem with matches in Chennai as they are scheduled after the election there.
