"Gilly better than Dada in Twenty20"
Sanjay Manjarekar talks of the interesting contests to look forward to this week in the IPL on STAR Cricket’s Match- Up Zone.
The former India batsman put Deccan Chargers skipper Adam Gilchrist "slightly ahead" of sacked Kolkata Knight Riders captain Sourav Ganguly."When we look at the way Gilchrist and Ganguly bat there is bit of a mismatch, especially if you look at T20 cricket.
Gilchrist is impulsive and instinctive and that makes him ideally suited in this form of the game. Ganguly's frame of mind is not at its best. So, I would put Gilly slightly ahead of Dada, though there is not much to choose."
Manjerekar also disagreed with Kolkata coach John Buchanan's opinion that Ganguly would be able to perform better without the pressure of captaincy.
"Whatever little I know of Sourav he likes to lead. He likes to be in the forefront and that boosts his confidence as a batsman."
Manjerekar felt the leadership of Chennai Super Kings' MS Dhoni and Delhi Daredevils' Virender Sehwag is a contest to watch out for.
"When Dhoni faces a target, his focus is on the scoreboard and not on hitting boundaries and sixes.
Dhoni and Sehwag's leadership will be a fascinating contest to watch apart from the kind of stroke play that we would get to see from these two gentlemen".
Manjerekar also felt Deccan Chargers would go through to the last four of the IPL, unlike last year, when they ended at the bottom of the table.
