Moody gains little from Punjab defeat
Tom Moody refused to read too much into the Kings XI Punjab's Indian Premier League defeat to the Delhi Daredevils.
However, the former Australian player said one plus factor for his side was the batting display of openers Ravi Bopara and Karan Goel.
The Australian coach watched as his team were beaten by 10 wickets on the Duckworth-Lewis method in a match disrupted by sporadic drizzle around Newlands.
The game was reduced to just 12 overs aside and after being asked to bat, Moody's men were cruising at 67 without loss after 5.5 overs before losing the wicket of Goel.
The strategy break - a seven-and-half-minute stoppage at the midway point of each innings - then interfered with Punjab's performance as they eventually finished with 104 for seven.
Delhi's response was cut even shorter to six overs after more rain and, needing 54 for victory, they raced home thanks to Virender Sehwag's 38 in 16 balls.
"I think you can't read anything into a result of a game like today," Moody said afterward. "It's quite obviously in favour of Delhi, the outcome.
"A situation when you've only got six overs and the opposition has still got 10 wickets in hand. You're in a near impossible position.
"What we can take from this game is a lot of confidence. I'm very happy with the way we batted up front, particularly in conditions that were probably favourable with the new ball.
"I thought we dealt with that pretty well and that will give us a lot of confidence. There's nothing much we can read into the bowling, we hardly spent any time out there.
But it's still early days and we still have a lot to offer in this tournament."
Moody was also full of praise of debutant Bopara, who was signed for US$450,000 at this year's IPL auction.
"Ravi's a terrific addition for us," added Moody. "We were very keen to pick him up in the auction - we think he adds a real dynamic aspect to our game.
"Those type of players are very rare and having him in the squad is obviously a real bonus to us."
Delhi captain Sehwag believes his side won the game on account of excellent bowling spells from man-of-the-match Daniel Vettori (three for 15) and Dirk Nannes (none for 24), who bowled six overs between them.
He said: "I think we will take a lot of confidence into the next game. Daniel and Nannes bowled very well towards the end in the slog overs and because of that we won the game.
"They did fantastically to restrict the batsmen at that stage. Before that it was looking as if Delhi will get more than 104. So the bowling from those two was very good.
