Gilchrist: Rohit is a class act

Deccan Chargers skipper Adam Gilchrist heaped praises on his deputy Rohit Sharma, saying the youngster is a class act.

"He has been in great form last year as well and has done pretty well in the Indian one day and Twenty20 teams. He is a class act," Gilchrist said after the team's 24-run win against Bangalore Royal Challengers on Wednesday.

Gilchrist (71 off 45 balls) and Rohit (52 off 30 balls) matched each other shot for shot today even though it was the Australia who was adjudged Man of the Match.

A future leader in the making

"Rohit has taken his vice-captain's role very seriously and wants to be a leader some day and that is exciting," Gilchrist said.

Gilchrist was naturally happy after the team's second straight win but the Australian guarded against complacency and said the team, which had finished last in the first season of the Indian Premier League, needed to maintain its high standard.

"We played really well and it's our second win on the trot. But it's still too early to think about anything else. I'm really happy that the hard work put in by the boys are paying off," said the left-hander.

His opposite number Kevin Pietersen said with Gilchrist on song, there was not much his bowlers could do on Wednesday.

Hayden and Gilly are dangerous

"Well when players like (Matthew) Hayden or Gilchrist like this, there is not much you can do. They have done it for Australia so many times and unfortunately were at the receiving end of their form in our last two matches," Pietersen rued. Playing for Chennai Super Kings, Hayden had slammed 65 against Bangalore Royal Challengers in their previous match.

Pietersen said his team would have to sort out their performance in the first six overs.

"I think we got it wrong in the first six overs and that has been the case in both the matches we lost. This is an area we have to sort out soon," Pietersen said.
