Ojha, Praveen feel IPL good platform
Pragyan Ojha and Praveen Kumar feel their success in South Africa will come handy in next month's ICC World T20.
Two of the star bowlers in the ongoing IPL feel that their IPL experience will help them in England, as the IPL is no less competitive than the ICC event in England.
Both Ojha and Praveen have been included in India's 15-member squad for the Twenty20 World Cup and they said the IPL has given them the confidence and exposure to excel at the highest international stage.
"IPL is like World Cup"
"What the IPL has taught us is how to get into rhythm for the World Cup. We have not played too many Twenty20 since the last IPL, so this event is a great help for everyone," said left-arm spinner Ojha, who has taken 10 wickets out of seven matches for Deccan Chargers in the ongoing IPL.
"What I have learnt from IPL here is that varying the pace is very important, because not everytime all wickets are going to help you. It is how you vary your pace, line and length, which will mark you out. Ultimately it's about how best you utilise the conditions and get used to it," he added.
Praveen, who has taken seven wickets for Bangalore Royal Challengers in seven matches, agreed and said he was looking forward to playing the Twenty20 World Cup.
"IPL is like World Cup. Players regard it that way. They practice that way, even the atmosphere is like that. All that put together will help me personally and the team," said the 22-year-old medium-pacer in the IPL website.
Ojha was also not surprised by the good performance of the spinners in the ongoing IPL.
"Some of the wickets have been a little damp so at times the ball has been gripping. Also it is the end of the season here, so the wickets have been used right through. Many think Twenty20 is about batsmen hitting a lot of runs. But it can be useful for bowlers as well," said the 22-year-old Hyderabadi.
For Praveen though it has been a bit frustrating.
"Wickets have become flat because they have been used right through (South Africa) season. It feels at times that I have been bowling in India. It affects bowlers like me at times."
Ojha faces stiff competition
Ojha faces stiff competition for a place in the playing XI in England from all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who can bat and is a restrictive left-arm spinner. But he is unfazed by the competition.
"It's a healthy competition. We are competing well and it's a good sign for the team too. We are pushing ourselves. I have been working on my batting and fielding too, so it's a good chance to continue my good work," Ojha said.
He dreams of yet another India-Pakistan final in the Twenty20 World Cup in England.
"I would love to be part of the World Twenty20 final and play Pakistan. Just the thought of playing Pakistan in the final would be great repeat value, just because of the atmosphere. I would want a repeat of the 2007 final and play a part in India winning," signs off Ojha.
