Shahid Afridi said he would prefer some IPL franchise making a direct bid for him to be included in the January auction.

Pakistan's all-rounder clarified that he would prefer a direct bid instead of him sending a request to the Indian Premier League for the purpose.

"I am not saying I don't want to play in the IPL but at my age and seniority I don't want to be in a position where to play in the IPL I have to send in a request myself that my name should be included in the players auction," Afridi said.

"If any franchise directly bid for me and my name was included in the players auction directly I would be happy," he added.

He said being Pakistan's Twenty20 captain it didn't seem right for him to push himself to play in the IPL.

"From what I know from my agent some franchises have shown interest in me and my name is there in the list of players for the auction. But certainly I don't want to push for my name to be included myself," he said.

IPL Chairman Lalit Modi has said that since the Pakistani players had missed the deadline for submitting their documents for IPL III they would now be eligible to play in the league through the players' auction.

Afridi played for Deccan Chargers in the first season but no Pakistani player took part in the second edition of the tournament this year as the Pakistan government didn't give security clearance for the players to travel to India.
