Chargers deny Razzaq report
espnstar.com's Ayanjit Sen and Rajarshi Gupta find out that the DC have no plans of signing Abdul Razzaq for the third edition of the IPL but the player says he is ready to go.
A highly placed official with the Hyderabad based franchise, Deccan Chargers, revealed that a newspaper report on the team planning to sign the Pakistan all-rounder is completely untrue.
“We have no slots left and none of our players is injured. We deny the report completely.”
The Chargers maintained that there are no fitness concerns in the team.
The IPL has drawn ire from across the border after all 11 players from Pakistan were ignored in the auctions on January 19 in Mumbai.
The Indian Home Minister P Chidambram had termed the IPL teams’ move as a ‘disservice to cricket.’
Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan had also gone on record to say that Pakistani players should have been treated better in the auctions.
A report in the Times of India had said that the Chargers are planning to sign up the Pakistan all-rounder as an injury replacement for fast bowler Fidel Edwards.
IPL commissioner Lalit Modi said DC just don't have any money left with them to rope in a new player.
"Currently, only Rajasthan Royals can have a slot. Deccan Chargers don't have any money. Only way to bring a new player is through injury replacement. But for that, the IPL governing has to be convinced that the injured player won't come back for even a single match," Modi said.
Speaking exclusively to espnstar.com, Abdul Razzak said the Deccan Chargers had contacted him.
"But, right now, the entire clearance process is due."
"I have had a wrist injury but I have recovered from it. I will soon start practice," he said.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ejaz Butt told espnstar.com that a decision to play any Pakistani player in the IPL would be taken only after written confirmation from the tournament organisers.
"We will decide only after getting positive reaction from the IPL authorities," he said.
He also said that the PCB has had a clear discussion with the Pakistan government representatives on the IPL issue.
