Lure of lucre yorks Jadeja

India and Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will not be allowed to play for any IPL team for the next one year.

Jadeja had come under the scanner for not signing the renewal contract with the Rajasthan Royals and attempting, instead to negotiate a larger financial contract with some of the other IPL franchises.

The Saurashtra cricketer, was therefore charged with a serious non-adherence to the IPL player guidelines.

Lalit Modi, Chairman & Commissioner, Indian Premier League stated in a press release, “The IPL Governing Council has arrived at this decision after due deliberations done after taking into account Ravindra Jadeja’s representation to the President of the BCCI and a further representation by the Rajasthan Royals.

The player guidelines laid out by the Governing Council of the IPL are sacrosanct and all players will need to strictly adhere to the same. We will not tolerate any player playing games or blackmailing any teams or the IPL/BCCI in any manner.”

Jadeja, now an important cog in India’s ODI side, was impressive in his debut season for the Royals, shining with bat and ball. Former Australian legspinner and Royals skipper Shane Warne was effusive in his praise for the youngster after the side stunned everyone to win the inaugural edition in India.

However, after completing his contract with the Royals on December 31, 2009, Jadeja went around seeking better deals from other franchises, without a nod from the team- under the laws they had the first right to refusal.
