Plea for postponing IPL III

Plea for postponing IPL III

Madras High Court directed a petitioner to approach the Centre to frame guidelines for regulating IPL matches.

And for postponing its third edition on his plea as they overlapped with secondary and higher secondary board examinations schedule.

Disposing of a PIL petition by Hennry, a film producer, a division bench comprising Chief Justice H L Gokhle and Justice K K Sashidharan held that in the normal course an aggrieved party should first represent and place his case before the authorities concerned.

If the authorities failed to look into the matter, the petitioner could then approach the court, the bench said.

The petitioner submitted that the Centre could no longer remain mute spectator and turn a blind eye on the "long-term and short-term evils caused by the Indian Premier League".

Submitting that the IPL season-3 scheduled to commence on March 12 was to be played every day continuously up to April 25, the petitioner contended it overlapped with the schedule of board examinations across the country and live telecast of the matches "will definitely have an adverse bearing on the students' preparation for the crucial examinations".
